Architecture is the search for a specific task.
Any architecture is the result of an interaction: a particular group of people come together in a specific place, at a specific time. This constellation always holds a potential to create something unique that could only be realized by this group at this time and this place.
We always try to discover this specific potential. It requires some courage from all involved parties to dismiss all the old, rigid conventions and simply ask oneself:
What is this one really about?
In short: The Architecture 0.16 exhibition was simply about a block of polystyrene and what to do with it.
The experiment
We create an interactive experiment with the visitors and let them play the role of the architect. Visitors become actual designers and virtual inhabitants of a utopian city that belongs to everyone.
We explain the concept and our ideas. Otherwise, there are no restrictions or requirements on what to do. Anyone can join in at any time as the experiment quickly gains a momentum of its own.
The process
Visitors decide for themselves how they want to use the polystyrene block.
This requires mutual respect, but it can also start interesting debates:
Architecture is teamwork!
The documentation
The polystyrene block is transformed into a utopian city. We document this process and all interventions with Polaroids:
Architecture is telling a story!
The figurines
Anyone can choose his or her individual avatar figurine and place it in the model, be it in a group, exposed or hidden:
Architecture is positioning yourself!
The resources
To build is to use up limited resources responsibly. Each and every intervention reduces the available amount of the available polystyrene. Any decision has definite consequences. That is not always easy:
Architecture takes courage!
The tools
Countless tools are available to work on the block: saw and glue, buckets and brooms, pens and crayons and of course one's own hands:
Architecture is fun like a children's game!
